2 Questions to ask yourself before buying anything to save money on clothes!
I like getting dressed every day, I like buying new clothes, and I also like a well curated life because I don’t want to spend money and energy on things that I won’t use. I’ve been so much more intentional this past year or so about what items I bring into my life since I got my house professionally organized. I have come up with 2 questions that really help me to save money on clothes and all of the other items that I purchase for myself, my family and in my home!
2 Questions to ask Yourself Before buying
1. What am I actually saying yes to when I buy this?
A purchase is not just a purchase. When you buy dinner for your family at a drive-through, for example, what you’re saying yes to maybe a more relaxed night at home for your family because you’re already rushed with other activities. You’re saying yes to not doing dishes and getting your kids to bed on time. When I’m buying a product for my home, what am I saying yes to? Am I saying yes to an item that I will wear again and again and incorporate into my closet that fits well with my other clothes, or am I saying yes to an over-stuffed closet? Be thoughtful when making your purchasing decisions so you feel happy about what it’s creating in your life.
2. What is the time and energy commitment to take care of this item?
Every purchase has a time commitment associated with it. Does it help save you time or does it take away time? Either is fine for the right reasons. When I’m buying a gorgeous new black dress, I might love the time it will take to keep it freshly laundered because it saves me time when it comes to getting dressed for church on Sunday mornings. When you’re buying new cups for your kitchen for your family to drink out of, is this an item that will save time because then you don’t have to look for matching cups when you have your friends for dinner, or does it take time and energy because you already have enough cups and now you’ll need to figure out where to store these ones?
I hope these questions will help you save money on clothes and all other items that you purchase for your home. I hope it helps you save energy and be very intentional about what you choose to let into your life! You deserve to create exactly what you want.
