the best secret: quarterly decorating
I’ve always loved changing up my home decor with the seasons—but I’ve also learned that constant decorating can get a little exhausting. Over time, I’ve found a rhythm that feels both intentional and sustainable: I put out seasonal decor by quarters.
Breaking my decorating into quarters lets me fully enjoy each setup without constantly swapping things in and out. It keeps my home feeling fresh and seasonally inspired—without feeling like a never-ending project.
my quarterly decorating schedule
Here’s how I break it down:
- Fall Quarter: August, September, October
- Winter Quarter: November, December, January
- Spring Quarter: February, March, April
- Summer Quarter: May, June, July
Each quarter has its own color palette, mood, and little touches that make my home feel cozy and cohesive.
For example, during Fall Quarter, I bring out warm tones, cozy textures, and natural accents like faux leaves and pumpkins. When October rolls around, I don’t redo everything—I just add a few extra pumpkins or Halloween details to make it feel festive.
seasonal decor that’s worth the effort
If you’re going to decorate, you want it to be worth it. I want my home to feel beautiful and seasonally refreshed, but I also want to actually enjoy it for a while before changing it again.
By decorating quarterly, I get a solid three months with each theme—long enough to really appreciate it and short enough to keep things exciting. It’s the perfect balance of creativity and practicality.
my fall porch decor
In fall quarter, my porch is giving full-on fall charm. I’ve layered a cozy doormat with a simple outdoor rug, added a few planters filled with fake mums and fall foliage, and styled them alongside pumpkins in soft neutral tones.
It’s warm, welcoming, and the perfect reflection of my favorite decorating philosophy: seasonal, simple, and sustainable.

my winter porch decor
My winter porch has such a cozy, welcoming charm—it genuinely makes me smile every time I see it. My favorite detail has to be the oversized gingerbread cutouts. They’re always the first thing people notice when they come over, and they hold so much meaning for me. They remind me of my grandma Emma and the sweetest memories we made at her house every Christmas Eve, building gingerbread houses together. Her home always felt like home to me, and that feeling is something I’ll never forget.
I also like to switch out my pots each season using these pot fillers. While they’re on the pricier side, the quality is exceptional, and I know they’ll last for many years to come—making them well worth the investment.
For my rugs, I layer them throughout the seasons, starting with this versatile base layer that’s easy to build on. Since my front porch is the entry to my home, I want that first impression to feel inviting, clean, and friendly—a space that truly welcomes you in.
