The Best Reading List

Shop

20 Aug

I know what you’re thinking. The title to this post seems like a lot to live up to and a pretty big promise. That’s how much I LOVE these books! To mix it up a bit, I thought it would be fun to share my favorite books of all time. To go along with A Slice of Style and why you come here every day, reading is a very inexpensive form of entertainment 😉 One book can bring you joy for hours!
I have absolutely loved reading since I was a child. I would go in my room and read for a few hours when I had time. I would soak it all in! I still love it and try to read a little bit before I go to bed every night to get my mind off of the day and escape for a bit.

Plus, if you buy the books through my links this month, you’ll be supporting Jared and VoNique’s infertility fundraiser which I’m so excited about it. It has been going so well and I have loved doing it for them and seeing everyone become involved. You guys are amazing.
First up, Unbroken. This is the best book I have ever read. It is a life changer. If you’ve seen the movie, just know that the book is 10 million times better. Yes, I said it. It helped me be so grateful for my life and how easy it is in comparison to what the main character went through. It’s a true story of a man involved in World War II and you’ll be a different person after reading it.

the best book list
Next up, the Giver. Again, this makes you appreciate your life and the freedoms that you have.  It’s fiction but has so much meaning and I’ve probably read it at least 4 times I bet. This is a movie as well and I heard the movie was really weird and not good. So don’t watch the movie and read the book and you’ll be a happy little reader like me 🙂
favorite books
The Forgotten Garden is next. This book is fiction and has twists and turns that will absolutely shock you. I LOVED it and I think I’m going to read it again soon 🙂
Same Kind of Different as Me is an INCREDIBLE book. It really is and will touch your heart and make you more compassionate. This is a true story and it made me so happy because I just love how good some people can be. Oh, I can’t even tell you how much I loved it and how much I think you need to read it!
The Glass Castle is another must-read and is a bestseller on Amazon for a reason. It’s a true story and it’s another one that will make you grateful and treasure your own life. It’s beautifully written.
I just started reading All But My Life because my friend let me borrow it. It was referred to her by one of her customers and she absolutely love it, and I am hooked already. It’s about a girl who lived through the Holocaust and it’s so beautifully written.

Saving CeeCee Honeycutt is another favorite that is an absolute delight to read. It’s about a young girl who moves in with her aunt and the characters are so charming. I loved every second of it!

And, last but not least, Harry Potter. Seriously! If you haven’t read these books, you are in for a real treat. This is a great deal on the full set. They are full of adventure and fun and just help you escape for a bit which is why I love books so much.

I hope you love these books as much as I did! I am honestly pretty confident that you will. Most of them are bestsellers…for a reason. I would love it if you left your favorite book recommendations in a comment. I am always looking for great books to read! You can call me Jenica the Bookworm from now on 🙂

Thanks for sharing Jenica! I always like to read a few reviews before I commit to a book ;). Just recently I read "Unbroken" and could not stop thinking about it for days.. what an incredible story! I will definetly read some of the other books you listed. Here's a few books I read recently and LOVED each of them: The Nightingale by K.Hannah, The Lost Wife by A.Richman, Even Silence Has an End by I.Betancourt, Twelve Years a Slave by S.Northup. And may I suggest a great way to read when you don't have much time to just sit down and relax with a book.. Audible! I often listen to audiobooks when I drive, clean, cook or run/workout/ride a bike! If it's a great story I can't stop "reading"/listening to/, I get A LOT done around the house or get up earlier in the morning to get a bike ride in with the book before my daily craziness begins ;).

Hey Jenica! I loved the Big Stone Gap series by Adriana Trigiani! It’s based on where the author is from, which is also the town beside where I grew up and currently live. There is also a movie based on the first book. 🙂
I look forward to reading some of the ones you suggested!

I cannot BELIEVE it was only a short year ago that I cannot BELIEVE it was only a short year ago that I was deciding if I could handle doing another frozen embryo transfer
and now LOOK at him đŸ„č It was one of the hardest years of my entire life. Going through things I don’t wish on anyone. But look at us now 😭 And looking internally
the things I’ve learned.

Tell me about something a year ago for you that you didn’t know you’d get through and can’t believe you are where you’re at đŸ€đŸ‘‡đŸ» #infertilityjourney #ivfsuccess #frozenembryotransfer
This is it. Not just in motherhood, although moth This is it.

Not just in motherhood, although motherhood really amplifies it, but in life.

It’s the fast days that are loud and sunny.

It’s the slow days that are quiet and snowy.

The mismatched pajamas and the dressed to the nines.

It’s the mess.

It’s the organization and order.

It’s the to-do list that gets crossed off and the to-do list that doesn’t.

It’s in the allowing of both.

It’s in perhaps preferring one over the other, but not judging either.

It’s in the wisdom that both will pass and each have lessons to teach.

Neither is wrong.

Both are allowed.

This is it.

It might feel impossible in the middle of it and y It might feel impossible in the middle of it and you might question everything.

“I have no idea what the future will bring.”

“Will everything I’m putting myself through be worth it?”

“What am I doing?”

“Am I making the right choice?”

But your moments will come. Trust that and let it bring you peace.

The alternative is feeling anxious, which is also completely acceptable and normal, but remember that you also have the option of trusting and feeling peace, too. There is room for both.

You’re not alone in this đŸ€

It was a year ago that I decided to jump into the It was a year ago that I decided to jump into the deep, black ocean of IVF again. I knew what I was doing this time and I was filled with fear because
I knew.

When I found out I was pregnant, the fear was my secret. Only a close few knew.

And this space was filled with tears, uncertainty
soul reaching prayers.

Sleepless nights, gut wrenching heartache.

Secrets that I hold close to my heart.

And then he came.

And the healing began.

And the mama, this mama, knew she did it.

That black ocean had swallowed her whole and she’d do it again for the light that is him.

Once she swam to the surface, and jaggedly gasped in the fresh air and felt the sunshine on her face, she knew she would do it all over again.

For this sacred chaos.

Tonight as I was moving the bassinet out of my room, I stopped. The room will soon be cleared. The shelves emptied and the order restored. And I can’t believe that the ocean was conquered. The chaos was where I found the strength and the beauty.

The sacred, precious chaos.
