To my beautiful children,
Yesterday was a day that we have been anticipating for months (well, years if you count how long we have wanted you here!) When we woke up, your dad walked out of the bathroom after his shower and said, “how are Buttons and Bubbles doing today? It’s the big day!!” Ha ha I think we are going have lots of nicknames for you over the years.
The ultrasound tech and my friend Ashley at the fertility center said that we could come in at 16 weeks and she would do the gender reveal ultrasound for us. She texted me and told me to come in at 9:45 so I called your dad and we met there! As I was driving there, I started crying. I just can’t believe how far we have come. I took many, many similar drives to the fertility center for surgeries, blood draws and ultrasounds. This time I was driving there to find out the genders of my babies. I couldn’t stop the tears! The gratitude in my heart can’t really be described. It has been such a long journey. Really, I’m grateful for it, because it made moments like yesterday even more sweet because I didn’t know if I would ever get to experience them.
I got a call from your dad as I was just about to get out of the car. He said that he had just gotten off the freeway. Our plan was to find out with our families at the gender reveal party that night. He said, “Jenica. No one will know if we find out right now. Everyone thinks that we are going to find out tonight. Let’s do it!” I told him no!! We had waited this long and I was sticking with the plan 🙂
When we walked in, I gave Ashley a big hug (I’ve told you she’s the best hugger and has been such a big support to me through this process!) and we walked back to the room. We reminded her that we didn’t want to know what the genders were so we turned off the screen behind her and her screen was faced just to her. We could see the looks on her face when she was looking at the babies and it was so cute and suspenseful! She got the first gender really quickly, but the other baby wasn’t being quite as cooperative with it’s position, so she called in Lindsey who is another ultrasound tech there for a second opinion. They knew we were doing our gender reveal that night so they wanted to make sure to get it right! Just to be safe, we did a trans vaginal ultrasound as well. After about 30 minutes altogether, they were confident that they had both Silver and Gold’s genders. Ashley printed the ultrasounds and put them in an envelope. She printed the genders on each ultrasound so it would be obvious. We then did another quick ultrasound just so we could see our babies cute little bodies. You guys have grown SO much since we last got to see you! We couldn’t believe how sweet your precious profiles are. We could see your noses and lips!
Your dad and I were so excited we could hardly handle it. It was hard to think of anything else all day! My cute friend Jen at work kept saying things like, “hey, can I borrow your keys?” because she knew the ultrasounds were in my car. On my lunch break, I went to get my nails done white with a little pink and blue heart on one finger to celebrate. I stopped by at the dollar store to buy pink plates and blue cups.
After work, I picked up some beautiful cookies from Audra at Me Oh My Couture and they were so CUTE! She did a perfect job. (If you live in Utah and need cookies for any event, reach out to her!) I then dropped off the ultrasounds and 4 pairs of Freshly Picked moccasins, 2 pink and 2 blue, to my friend and neighbor Myken. I asked her to wrap up the matching colored pair with each ultrasound. She did such a beautiful job and wrapped each present perfectly!! It was so kind.
My mom and sister Jocelyn came over early to help me set up and everyone was so helpful. Grammy and Popsy helped make the waffles and syrup. We did a waffle bar with protein whole grain waffles, butter syrup, strawberries, and bananas. They were so good and it was an easy meal to serve a big group. When everyone arrived, we stopped eating and had to open the presents…no one could wait any longer!!
Your dad and I sat on the fireplace and each had a present in our hands. Our hearts were literally pounding and we were sweating because we were so nervous and excited! I opened my present first and when I saw those pink moccasins, I thought my heart was going to burst. A GIRL!!! Your dad had a dream that we had two boys a couple nights earlier, so I kind of thought maybe that was a sign. I wanted a little girl and a little boy so bad though!!
Your dad’s present was next. I actually saw the blue moccasins right after opened the box before anyone else saw them. If you look at my face and my eyes in the video, you’ll be able to see that! A BOY!!! Could this be any better?! We are SO beyond excited and grateful that we can hardly believe it. This is so much fun. It was so incredible to celebrate with both of families there and find out together with everyone. We are so grateful for all of the incredible support and love that we have felt!
After the reveal, we finished eating and then we had to run to the BYU basketball game. I dropped my phone in the toilet right before the game so I couldn’t use it for the rest of the night to tell friends and family what we were having!! Bad timing. Your dad put it in rice and it’s working (for the most part) today. I woke up sick today so I’m taking the day off work. I wanted to post this letter first thing this morning but I’ve been sleeping!
You are so loved, our beautiful babies. I brought the ultrasounds to the basketball game last night and couldn’t stop looking at them. I showed your Popsy (grandpa, your daddy’s dad) the ultrasounds again and I saw a big tear fall from his eyes. That set me off and I couldn’t stop crying again, right in the middle of the basketball game! I’m just so grateful that we get to have you in our home. You are such a joy to us.
I’m grateful that you get to have such an amazing, dedicated and fun daddy. When we got home from the game, I was feeling absolutely horrible so I took a nice hot shower while your dad finished the laundry. Marry someone like your dad, Goldie. You’ll be happy for the rest of your life. He got my bed ready for me and rubbed my back and feet for a bit. When he came to bed a few minutes later, I was almost asleep. I think he thought I was asleep, but he still bounced our little rabbit “Mallow” that we sleep with every night over to me. He made the rabbit “hop” over to me. It makes me smile! Your Aunt Jocelyn gave you both Mallow on the day of embryo transfer and your dad and I have slept with him ever since. I think he just makes us happy because we know the reason why we have him.
We are so excited to plan for your arrival! Just think…it’s 5 short months away! Do you even know how much your daddy and I love you?
