Today we have my friend Maya guest blogging to tell us about faux fur. If you know me, you know I am ALL ABOUT faux fur. I first met Maya on her wedding day…at her wedding. Funny, huh? One of my husband’s best friends married her. She treated me like family on her wedding day and totally welcomed me into the festivities even though I had never met her. She is beauty inside and out 🙂 One thing I love about her blog is that she posts a splurge version and a steal version on all of her outfit posts so you can decide what fits your budget best. She has incredible style! Make sure to follow her blog, and Instagram to get the inside on her great looks!
Hi guys! I am so excited to be sharing on A Slice of Style today! My blog, My Life as Maya, is dedicated to all of the things I love from mom life to fitness to fashion, and I am always on the hunt for a great deal (which is one of the many reasons I adore A Slice of Style). My fashion posts always list both a steal and a splurge version of whatever I’m wearing for that very reason-why spend $500 when you can spend $50 on something that looks the same? I’m all about searching out the pieces that look just like the pricier designer items for a 1/4 of the price! Today’s looks is dedicated to faux fur, where to get it for less, and how to style it without looking like you just went hunting and draped yourself in a yak (haven’t seen a yak before? Google it and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about).
As I rule I try to never spend over $50 for faux fur, and with that mindset and a little hunting you can always find an amazing piece. I happen to love Forever 21 for faux fur, I’ve found that they consistently have some of the best styles and prices. Once you have your hands on that perfect fur piece though, how do you style it? Always let the fur be the shining star of your outfit. Avoid loud patterns and colors, opting instead for neutral colors that really compliment the hues in the fur. Try to keep the rest of your outfit simple, understated, and classic rather than overdoing it with several trends (in this case I choose a white blouse, distressed denim, and simple black heels to avoid having too many pieces competing with each other). Play around with lengths too – try a cropped fur vest with a long maxi dress or an oversized coat with denim shorts to create dimension and contrast (this is a great way to style any outfit, not just fur). Last but not least, go for a piece that does not overwhelm your frame. Often times one of the biggest mistakes that people make styling a fur piece is that they choose a piece that completely overwhelms their body. YOU wear the fur, don’t let the fur wear you. This is what will separate you from looking like an animal versus looking like you’re wearing one 😉 I hope that you guys love this look and feel ready to try your hand at wearing some faux fur!
