I’ve been open about my health journey this year (you can read more about that HERE) and since then, I’ve gotten a lot of questions about what I eat in a day. I would highly recommend reading that post first because it goes into details on supplements + drinks I make in the morning. I gathered all your questions from my stories and I’m answering them all here for you! If you have more questions, leave them in a comment below 🙂
What does a typical day look like for you in regards to what you eat? I wake up and drink celery juice, water with lemon juice, my electrolyte drink, and protein super greens mix (all of the details for these items are in THIS post). Then I have my smoothie for breakfast! For lunch I eat a salad. I pre make a salad at the start of each week with things like radishes, carrots, and snap peas (things that won’t get soggy!) Then when I prep my salad for lunch each day, I just add things like cucumbers and tomatoes, and this dressing that I love! I love it because it’s made with avocado oil and has no preservatives. It’s clean and delicious. Sometime I’ll have a bowl of oatmeal with cinnamon and apple slices. For dinner I make a good quality meat. I buy grass-fed meat and organic chicken. Then I add some veggies and some sort of side! I share dinners on my Instagram stories pretty frequently, so you can always check there for more dinner ideas! 🙂
Dinner recipes you love that are healthy? I pretty much always have a good protein that is grass-fed. I usually do either beef or chicken. I also make sure to have a veggie, and some type of side. I love the Six Sisters recipe book linked HERE.
What do you use in the smoothies as a base? Almond milk, etc.? I do purified water. I use THIS water purifier and it’s so worth it because I use it for everything all throughout the day! It’s an AquaTru water purifier and it removes 82 toxic chemicals. I drink so much water and I think it’s really important to filter the toxins out of it! Using this link will save you $150!
Detailed instructions on how you make your Mahi on the Traeger? I marinate it beforehand in coconut aminos, honey, lime juice, and garlic. Then cook the Mahi Mahi on the Traeger until the internal temp has reached 145. I cook it on one side for maybe 5 minutes, then switch to the other side to cook for a little while longer.
Do you eat anything before you exercise in the morning? I drink my celery juice before I exercise. I drink at least 40 oz. before and during exercise.
When do you drink your celery juice? Right when I wake up, but if I can’t fit it in in the morning, I do it 15 min before a meal when I feel like my stomach is pretty empty.
How many days of fresh produce to you get in one grocery trip? I try to get a full week of fresh produce and make it last for a week!
Are there specific times you start/stop eating for the day? No. I do drink a lot of liquid in the morning. I have my smoothie around 11!
Favorite lunch and dinner? My salad! I love mixing crunchy things in it, then adding cucumber, tomatoes, nuts, and avocado with the best dressing.
Do you meal prep? With salads, yes! I do like to have leftovers so sometimes I have leftover dinner for lunch the next day.
Tips to make eating whole foods quick and easy? Prep before hand if you want specific snacks for the day! Smoothies are also a great easy way. I use my Stanley cup that keeps it cold for house and hours.
Do you intermittent fast? I do not!
When you drink smoothies, what do you feed your kids? Harris likes the chocolate protein drink from Costco called Orgain. Goldie loves the Z Bars. I also feed them as much fresh fruit as they will eat!
How long did it take you to get in more of a natural rhythm/routine with your new diet? It took me probably 3 months! It felt like a lot of work for awhile and it was overwhelming to research what I should and shouldn’t be eating and get into a routine! Definitely worth it but it did take some time.
Does your smoothie replace a meal or an addition to get daily veg/fruit servings? Yes. I drink it for breakfast, and sometimes if I have a lot left over I’ll drink it along with my lunch as well!
Specifics about your vitamins! I read the Medical Medium and use about 15 of the vitamins he recommends. Some of the ones I take are Iron, B vitamins, Red Clover, and different herbs. I definitely recommend getting them from whole foods.
How do you find the will power to not give in to sugar cravings? I don’t not give in! And I think that’s okay sometimes. I still have treats every now and then. I eat a lot of fruit and I don’t have near the amount of sugar cravings I used to! Fruit has really helped me to not crave it as much. I like apples with cinnamon or other fruits with honey. I also let myself enjoy treats every now and then, and I don’t beat myself up about it!
Snack ideas? I’m very basic when it comes to snacks! I like raw fruits and veggies. I like to sweeten them up with honey sometimes. I also like gluten free oatmeal with fruit on top and honey drizzled over it. I also have some gluten free paleo puffs that I love for a quick and easy snack!
How do you stay motivated to eat healthy? I was so sick and tired of feeling like absolute garbage. For me, feeling good is my biggest motivator. I don’t want to feel sick and exhausted, and that’s what motivates me!
Do you eat/crave food more at night or in the morning? I definitely eat more food at night than in the morning. I eat a good sized dinner, and then later I eat a snack before bed.
Do you restrict yourself in time of day eating? Like nothing past a certain time? I don’t restrict in time of day. I eat when I’m hungry. I make healthy choices and I don’t feel any guilt. I think it’s important to eat when you’re hungry, and to give yourself healthy options to choose from!
Does starting your day with that much liquid give you a stomach ache? No, it doesn’t! I’ve never had issues with that.
What did you eat while pregnant? I did not eat as well as I do now. I was kind of in survival mode (I had pre-eclampsia). I ate a lot of bread and I didn’t follow anything strict! I think if I got pregnant again, I would focus on eating more fruits.
How long did it take to feel better? I would say two months. It was completely worth it to feel good again! You get to the point when nothing else matters if you can’t be the person you want to be and have the energy levels you need to do that. It’s worth it to do what it takes! I started my health journey with a raw fruits and veggies cleanse.
Do you count calories or macros? No I don’t. I have in the past, but now I just focus on not overeating. I make good choices most of the time. I think no matter what you’re eating, you should focus on feeling satisfied but not stuffed!
Do you have any after dinner go to snacks? Fresh fruits with natural sweeteners!
When did you get your energy back after you changed your diet? Or was it gradual? It was slow and steady, but it took about two months! SO worth it.
Daily caloric intake? I honestly have no idea! I don’t track that. I just focus on not overeating.
