Alright!! I have thought long and hard about the goals that I want to focus on in 2017. I didn’t want to make too many because I wanted them to be realistic. I think when you make too many changes, things just go whacko. Is that even how you spell that word? Is that a word? When you make too many changes, you get overwhelmed and it’s just too much and then you find yourself eating from a pint of ice cream at 11 pm when your main goal was to lose a couple pounds. No pints for me, people! I’m keeping things simple and focusing on the small changes that will make the biggest impact in my life. If I share with you, that means I also have to be super duper accountable. Unless I choose to lie to you and say I did them when I didn’t. Which I would totally never do.
Here are my goals!
- Something that I have been ashamed of and have been wanting to change is the amount of food that goes to waste in my fridge. It’s not mass quantities by any means, but I buy food and then oftentimes finding it going to waste. THIS IS NOT OKAY! There are so many people who are in need of food in this world, and I am so incredibly fortunate to be able to go to the store so easily and have access to the nutrition that my family needs. SO….to combat this, I am going to MEAL PLAN. Yes, it seems daunting at first. But I starting doing it and it’s a lot easier than I thought it would be originally! I simply sit down for a few minutes, choose what I want to eat that week based on our schedule, and then cross check my fridge and pantry to see what I already have vs. what I need to buy. Tyler and I use an app called Wunderlist where you can create lists and share them with others. When I add an item to our grocery list, it will automatically show in his app as well. If he happens to be at the store, he can pick up the items that I have added and vice versa. I also recently discovered this cookbook and I’m IN LOVE. The recipes are so easy and so delicious which is my perfect combo. I would HIGHLY recommend buying it.
- Read my scriptures EVERY DAY. This is easiest to do when I start with them in the morning before I get Harris and Goldie out of their cribs to start their day. My mind is much more clear in the morning, and at night, sometimes I’m so tired that I almost want to jump into bed without washing my face or brushing my teeth. Then I remember my hormonal acne and promptly give my face a good scrub down. I find when I read my scriptures every day, it gives me a happiness, peace and joy in my day. I feel more calm and able to tackle the challenges that await. I’m reminded that God is by my side and I simply need to ask Him for help when I need it. He always hears me.
- Start getting ready for bed at 10 pm!! I’m not a night person. In fact, I think I’m replaced by an ogre after about 10:30. I will never forget when Tyler said, “I love morning Jenica!” Ha ha ha. I’m a different person when I get enough sleep and it’s completely essential to my health, well being and all around happiness and pleasantness to be around. (If you need some help getting your babies to sleep through the night, read my post here. It’s a game changer). I read this book once that talks about how to ease the anxiety in your life, and it talks about how our brains need time to shut down before going to bed. For instance, if I go straight from writing a blog post to hurrying to get ready for bed, then trying to fall asleep, it’s just not going to happen. My brain is going a mile a minute. I have to start shutting all things work related down, get ready for bed then do something like read a book. This helps to relax me, get my mind off of anything that may be troubling me, and settling in for a long sleep. Yes, please. Starting my nighttime routine at 10 is my GOAL and this mama is going to do it. This is going to be a hard one.
- Lose the rest of my baby weight by February 28th. I debated about whether to put up the first sign, but I stuck with the second which is my goal date. Please just pray that I can stay away from the cookie dough that is currently calling my name oh so sweetly from the shelves of my favorite place in the house (the fridge, of course). I love this app to help me lose weight…it’s free, and it’s easy.
I’m a visual person, and I like checking off boxes. It makes me feel good. Yes, I’m a type A personality and yes and I’m a little nutso. But here’s the deal, I know how I work! When you can figure out what you best respond to, you can design the processes to achieve your goals. I bought markers at Target a couple days ago, and I write down a few of the items that I really want to make sure I get done on my bathroom mirror. I see it throughout the day so I can’t forget to do it. The sooner I check off the box, the better. I also like to write a scripture that I want to focus on. Right now I wrote “Oh ye of little faith…” from Mathew reminds me to TRUST GOD and remember that He’s there. I get so worried about anything and everything sometimes it feels like. OF COURSE I shouldn’t be worried, this scripture tells me. God has taken care of me in the past just as He will in the future. Have faith.
Okay, that’s it!! Let me know how you plan to stay on track and achieve your goals this year. I love hearing good ideas!
See you back here on Wednesday!
