LUXURY FOR LESS GUIDE: Hosting on a Budget
I love to host parties and gatherings! For me, I found one of the best ways to take out the stress and high cost of hosting is to keep a supply of basic, beautiful items that can be the foundation for any event. Then it’s easy to add in a splash of color and decor for the theme of whatever party or gathering you are hosting. Plus it saves you time and money so you can just enjoy the day with the rest of your guests!
Some examples of catering to a specific occasion:
- Back to School theme dinner: put some pencils/ School supplies and school name cards on the table
- Thanksgiving: use some cut out leaves spread across the table
- Christmas: layout some pine garland across the table
- New Year’s Eve: add in gold and silver for a fancy event
- Baby Shower: sprinkle blue or pink confetti down the table
- Milestone Birthdays: pick a theme color to add into the neutrals
- Theme Nights: have a fun theme night with family and friends and add in a few items that specifically focus on that theme
The pictures below are from my son and daughter’s baptism luncheon. They chose to be baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in which anyone is invited to come and see. It was beautiful. Afterward, we had a gathering in our home with all that attended their baptism to celebrate. It was a really sweet day. This theme was really easy to put together since all white was appropriate for this setting. Because of having simple staples on hand, I was able to soak in and enjoy my kids special day.
All it takes is a few extra items to change up the look and it’s so easy to do when you have these staples on hand!
One of the easiest and cheapest ways to host a gathering is stick with all white/neutral/clear plates, cups, napkins and flatware. Costco has a really great price point for a large amount of all of these items.
Having a classy looking drink dispenser that can be used at any event will definitely save you time and money and keep your guests from being thirsty!
Classic white candles and neutral picture frames make it so easy to add to any theme.
Having a favorite basic vase makes it really easy to throw in a splash of colorful flowers for whatever theme gathering you are hosting.
Neutral platters make it so easy to highlight the special food items you want to display. In this case, we had special cookies made to celebrate the day.
Instead of buying new tables cloths for every new event, keep nuetral linen tablecloths on hand for any event. It’s elegant and makes it easy to go with any theme. If you are like me and don’t like to have the extra wrinkles and lines from a folded linen, using a steamer will quickly flatten those wrinkles out and make them look so crisp and clean!
Crockpots are a MUST for gatherings. They make it easy to keep things warm and also cook for you while you are taking time to finish up other things. I love my crockpot. It really takes the stress out of the day knowing I could throw in a few food items and have it ready to host a large gathering.
Gathering together is one of my favorite things. I love being able to spend time with others and keeping the hosting aspect simple makes it for a really enjoyable event!
